The first of the Remix Non Chinese Basketball League (NCBL) 2008 Quarter Final tie will kickoff at 10.00 AM, 3 August 2008 in Pusat Rekreasi JKKK Balaking, Cheras. The matchup - NCBL 2007 Defending Champions Pegasus versus Flames.
While Pegasus are heavily favoured to win this matchup, they might be missing 5 players due to Petronas Team selections. Masri, Saifurizan (Panje), Norsultan (Lolo), Rozaini (Aboy), and Imran (Bo). This loss will leave Pegasus with only one big man in Thaufiq (John).
Flames on the other hand will have their full lineup available. They will be banking on their gargantuan superstar Alex Edwards to quash Pegasus’s hopes of achieving an NCBL three-peat. Below is the team breakdown:
Pegasus
Strength: Shut down Defense, Quick Fast break, good team chemistry, deep bench, low post scoring.
Weakness: Slow start, foul prone big men, may be missing 5 big men for the matchup.
Summary: Coach Sham will be looking to rely on shooting and will be going small if they miss their “Petronas Five”. PG Azizul (Jijun), SG Khairil (Kei) and Aznorizam (Baby), SF Amin and C Thaufiq will be playing the major role of scoring for them.
Should Pegasus have the services of the “Petronas 5″ this weekend, Pegasus should have a more balanced attack by going to their big men, scoring from the low post or feeding the wings or cutters for a shot.
Defense is Pegasus’ trademark, and it should be in full force this game.
Flames
Strength: Good team chemistry, an (almost) unstoppable center, good team hustle, average defense
Weakness: Lack of execution, no pure shooter
Summary: Flames is a veteran team, and their team chemistry is an A-plus. Under the leadership of Fairil (TV Show KL-ites remember?) and Aiman, Flames has been a mainstay in the Non Chinese Basketball tournaments. However, Flames has not won any titles, and they are looking to break the jinx this year.
The addition of Alex Edward in the lineup is inavaluable to the team, and Edward should be the focal point for Flames’ offense. At the same time, the 6′6″ Edward is a big presence in defense, and he should have a few blocks in this game.
My Prediction - It’s going to be biased. Pegasus should win this one. If they don’t have the “Petronas 5″, the scoreline should be less than 5 points. If all or some of “Petronas 5″ is in the game, the margin should be around 10 points.

Kitorang mmg takde la shooter shooter, tapi semua kongsi shoot. Almost everyone can shoot in this team. There would usually be 3-4 guys with 10-15 points. And it changes. It works for us. Everyone has a job to do.
The offense leaders are alex and fairil and we use them to open up spaces and start plays. Without a doubt, they are the key players, but not key to the point we’ll collapse lah.
Today we managed to stop pegasus from running amok buat fast break all day long. Tall guys with running feet. Not so nice to defend against but we did good. It was hard out-rebounding them. The only person worth giving a fight for a rebound was Alex, but we had aiman and fairil outjumping pegasus as well on occasions.
Pegasus made most of their free throws in the 3rd quarter.
We outscored pegasus on three quarters, but they outscored us enough on the third to take the lead and hold it (with their life).
Great game. Would love to go up against them again. Hopefully soon too.

having a pure shooter really opens up the floor for your cutters i.e Fairil & Aiman, and definately would make teams think before doubling your post players i.e Alex & Andre. It helps alot for teams like yours.
against an average shooter, defenses would collapse on the others… means you only get to shoot when Fairil slash & dishes it off (or off pick and rolls).
but having a pure shooter, would open up a whole new dimension for your team
maybe next year you’d be that player for your team perhaps? would make Flames worlds better.

In regards to the pure shooter thingy, a pure shooter is like BJ Armstrong, John Paxton of the Great Bulls Dynasty. The reason why they’re part of the Bulls at the time was to provide a consistent outside & perimeter shooting. Even Jordan couldn’t do it all
Blaze - a good sum up! Thanks!
Mr. Aboy - welcome to the blog. Tq for the comment.

Blaze:unfortunately I have my fair share of scars and nail digging by others too that which is far more painful than my occasional bumps.unfortunately for some, they gotta learn to know their surroundings n their teamates should call the for the impending screen.
Anyways, congrats pegasus.all the best in the semis…

well, blaze is right. I guess we have a rotating sharp shooter kot? some days someone is hot someone is not haha. but after i sinked one 3 pointer, jijun didnt give me enough room to comfortably release a shot, but that sorta opened up for alex/andre down low for the pass since jijun’s coming up a bit more created space.
weh aboy, good game weh. serious tak sabar nak round 2 (although for some players it will be round 3)
you guys can really jump. Aku box out pun celaka lompat atas aku. hah.
good luck in the semis.
bigbosspegasus - weh, lu nak heart attack masa first half kan? kalau pengsan aku tak reti administer CPR weh. hehehe. See you around your court if i swing by KL .

but then again, you already knew that.
In regards of the “sharp(er)” shooters, i still say its nowhere near the impact of having a PURE SHOOTER.
Sharp shooters are like the razifs, the amiruls, and to some extent some of your players. What differentiates their effectiveness compared to a PURE SHOOTER (ala the Yasiers, Imrans, Zunnasri, Ramesh) is that people do not extend and close out on them as much. Hence not opening up floor space for their teammates.

but whatever your friend did (or did not, depends on who you’re with) is blatantly a foul and unsportsmanlike as most of us can attest to.
he can keep playing that way, not that i mind. But one of these days he’s gonna get it from someone, and all i’m going to say is.. its about time, and i told you so.
you dont need to worry about me, disregard my comments if you cant take it. Its not meant for you.

to me, everything is fair game as long as the giver would not complain when the other team gives them the same kind of on-court souvenirs. But as i see it, Flames are like girls on the court, always whining to the refs on every single play, despite being one of the not so clean team out there.
there i said it =)

anyways, Flames plays tough so biasa lah ada contact here and there. But i do agree that Ben gives out alot of cheap shots and unnesassary roughness. But i’m not complaining. Players choose how they play, what happens next is up to the referees & the opponents. Kalau jadi gaduh, what do you expect? kalau lawan main kotor balik, what do you expect? kalau referee starts calling small small stuffs against you, sendiri juga yg buat.
so its all about how we want to play the game.
personally, i like it when people throw cheapos on me, it gives license for me to do the same back on them. he he he.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
and I dono what planet are you on. We’re not a dirty team. What the hell. U see us shoving knees? pulling jerseys? pulling down opponents on rebounds with the off hand?
Check your facts before you accuse my team for playing dirty blaze. And like Trey say, we play tough but we dont push you.
August 12th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
haha. trey ku relek ni brudder. hold me back, hold me back!! haha. but yeah, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just dont understand why flame boys are the only targets for playing “rough” or taking cheap shots.
August 12th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
What is this blaze, u like also complaining making u like girl, its just basketball if its dirty the ref will call it if he don’t then that just basketball ,live wit it….

No one is unstoppable in the league. Just stick to your defensive assignments and no one can penetrate pegasus.
Swoosh has some holes at the back. In terms of speed, both can run the court at will.
So maybe it’ll come down to defense, and rebounds. sapa dapat banyak 2nd chance shots sure menang la (obviously la right).
