Believe it or not, we are about 2 months away from NCBasketball’s premier annual league – the Non-Chinese Basketball League (NCBL), 2009 edition. Some teams are still on autopilot, while others are polishing their cannons and scribbling the strategy board.

This first preseason news comes from the League itself, and this is interesting:

Translated:
Mr. Khairul (Anuar Jailani – Chairman of NCBL and MABA Non-Chinese Development) has informed that many teams (participating in the NCBL) has requested to limit the number of national / ex-national players per team OR per game to 2. Therefore, the rule of only 2 national / ex-national may be implemented this season.

Per Team means max 2 national/ex-national players can be registered to any one team, whereby Per Game, no more than 2 national/ex-national players can play at any time during the game, but no limit as to how many national/ex-national players can be registered to a team.

This ruling will impact the defending champion and perennial powerhouse Swoosh the most as 3 of their players, namely “Abi” Guganeswaran, Kader and Yasier are national (or ex-national) players.

This player cap is meant to create a more competitive league,  with a “smaller win margin”  for the minnows against the powerhouse.

Welcome to the 2009 Season for the Non-Chinese Basketball Community.

Before I go further with what this year has to offer, I guess I will have to explain my long absence from blogging on this blog (huh? lol). To be honest with you, I don’t have a concrete explanation. Could it be that I was so ‘devastated’ by Pegasus losing to Swoosh in the 2008 NCBL Finals? Or was it because of my growing passion for another American sports? Or is it that I’m just plain lazy?

Well, It could be all of the above, or none of the above. Whatever it may be, I’ here to stay, and I will update this page more often.

Now, down to business. 2009 season will kickoff with the annual Non-Chinese Basketball League (NCBL), slated to begin in April. In between now & then, there are a few 3on3 tourneys around theKlang Valley, and I shall update this blog with any upcoming 3on3 tournaments.

Apart from that, the tournament to look out for Petronas Cup, which saw an exciting tourney & fresh faces, will be on towards the years’ end.

One major difference this year though – The Selangor Menteri Besar Cup (MB Cup)/Pertandingan Bola Keranjang Bukan Cina Selangor, will no longer take place, and it will be merged with the Selangor Sultan Cup Div. 2, thus ending the annual tournament’s run.

One positive out of this, the Non-Chinese Basketball Community has shown their growth and is a step further to making Basketball in Malaysia a game for everyone.
