National/Ex-National Player Cap for Non-Chinese Basketball League 2009? Here’s my thoughts..
Written by pegasusbigboss on March 19, 2009 – 9:02 pm -Finally, after hearing comments from the readers & our very own Yasier Rashid’s opinion on the National/Ex-National Player (Nationals) cap for the Non-Chinese Basketball League 2009, here’s my take on the subject.
Earlier, in the NCBasketball Circles (www.circles99.com/ncbasketball), this is what I wrote
I would like to elaborate on why we SHOULDN’T have a player cap for teams:
1) Basketball was mainly a Chinese sports – we came up with NC Basketball so the NC can play.
2) Petronas had the best team year-in-year-out during the Petronas Cup – we threw them out the KLCC, only to be replaced with State teams with a large salary cap.
3) NCBL Histroy
- 2006 Scorekeys had tons of talents & MABA trainees. They were upset by Pegasus in the Finals (Scorekeys won the group game vs. Pegasus).
- 2007 Scorekeys still has the MABA trainees. They were upset in the Semi-Finals by the Phantoms. We’ve been given the “tongkat” many times already where basketball development for non-chinese is concerned, so another “tongkat” will only nullify the efforts & objective of Non-Chinese basketball itself. We may have an “exciting” league, but a subpar talent within it.
However, after filling up my car at a local Petronas station, I had this thought (coincidence, I don’t think so)..
We should have a Nationals cap for the NCBL. Reason - MABA decided to scrap the Petronas team from participating in the annual Petronas Cup tournaments (beginning 2007 I think). MABA scrapped the Petronas Cup team due to the fact that all the players are Nationals, and they thoroughly dominated the Petronas Cup by winning the Cup virtually every year without a stiff competition.
While it may be a long shot for any teams to hire the services of 12 Nationals at one time (or even 5 players for their starting lineup), it is not impossible. If there is no Nationals cap, maybe one day Sathyaseelan could grab an entry form, call up all Nationals and former nationals to participate in the NCBL, win it, and share the RM5000 prize for the champion. (nothing against Seelan. Just an example. Seelan is a great basketball player & an awesome individual, and I do respect him to this day).
While it may develop the level of competition for the NCBL, more teams (especially the minnows) would be likely to pull out from NCBL.
Therefore, I do agree with the Nationals cap, only that having the National Cap at 2 is not really the right number.
Maybe I’ll go back to National Cap – only 3 or 4 Nationals per game ruling?
What do you think? Post your views and make your voice heard!

aku rasa, letak cap max is enuf kot cam 2 or 3 per team je sbb if we are a great nation of basketball like the US, then these cap don’t have to be used since everybody can train n play it everywhere.
but since cam aku yang duk kat desa pandan nih, nak main basket punyala ssh, tempat xbnyk, then klu nak main petang2 pg setiawangsa sah sah jem gila!!! so, buat orang malas trus nak train. so, xkisah la sapa yang main, xkan sbb team tuh ada national player kena takut!!! klu aku, aku lagi rela main ngan orang yang hebat so aku bleh blajar dari takut lawan ngan orang yang hebat n xda paper improve, then shok sendri!!!
adios

this issue seems to be a big matter eyh… i dont think i am in any position to even comment on this cause i dont know the real situation as my team will only be participating this team for the first time this year.. but again after all these years of playing i have been trained to beat or motivated to beat the best… victory is best earned when u worked hard for it… no offense to the national players, but i still think that if other players work hard we actually have equal chance…
p/s sorry if my comment is not relevant or it offends anyone.. am just guy returning to the court after being a strayed.. playing a game that is coming back into my heart dearly… btw i wish all the team all the best…

aku xrase player cap nie sgt perlu pOn dalam NCBL..
nape kite xperlu player cap??
1) Sbb kite nk improve kan the level of NCBL, if we put up the same level for every team, there’ll be less competition..less player development, skarang nie poN rmai player especially NC yg complain sane sini pasal ramai player hebat (nationals and maba trainees) tapi xbuat pape action pOn..pekate kalu kite sume NC players cut all the crap complaining and starts to work it out, go and train urself as hard as u can to at least try to compete with them. I didn’t say that the nationals is not that good, tapi kalu kite try to improve, i believe we can device a way to at least give em hard time winning.
2) Sbb aku xrse nationals and the maba trainees will be happy with that decision, and if they’re not happy, they just simply don’t play..sbb diorang ade byk lg tourney yg diorang leh masuk i.e all open leagues yg bersepah kat mesia nie, agung cup, petronas cup..and if they’re gOne, NCBL level will be lower than ever..btOl x?
3)there’s so much for us to learn when we see nationals and the MABA trainees plays together, cube korang bayangkan ah bee main ngn KPTM, xde rase cam die akan main sOrang and all his 10assist/game 2 hilang cm2 je ke?daymit..
oh. aku nk gi lunch..smbung lain kali..haah!!

The problem is we do not have separate leagues based on level of playing. In this case the cap per team is logical as you are all from different backgrounds, skill level, talent and understanding of the game.
If they can segregate this into maybe for now level 1 and 2 perhaps the cap is not needed, as more new teams enter another level should be created level 3 or so, if you win level 3, you move on to level 2 and play with teams in that level.
If a player excels at a certain level, he should move up to a higher level. One team has 1-3 teams, best, moderate, beginner. If a player for Team A plays exceptionally well scoring like 30 points, 8 blocks 10 steals a game, he should move to the level 2 team for Team A. If still he excels like crazy move on to level 1.
Later on this level 1 will be a host of talented players nationals/ex nationals, state and new Seelans and Legadas.
If you want to excel you have to work harder if not if you’re happy playing at your level, you can keep playing at that level without the need to train harder.
I remember this sytem when I was playing, starting from div 5 and my last year i was in div 2 with a basketball scholarship which I until now ponder why I didn’t take.

Asyraf – Welcome to the league. Playing with the best is, of course, the best way to improve. However, it has to be done on a more consistent basis.
Playing a good team only once (or twice)a year won’t get you the desired results. This doesn’t apply to you, but to everyone in the community.
So join up with the community, and when the season’s over, call up a few coaches/managers for a friendly. Fill up the big gaps in between the tourneys to keep your team in shape and on a consistent growth
Wan & Mislan – Korang ni suka pick on KPTM kan? Aku repot.. tak kira.. lol
On a more serious note – if we really want to improve, there shouldn’t be “NC-Basketball” in the first place. There shouldn’t be a “Non Chinese Basketball League – Just a Basketball League.
Arif – Good idea for the “separate leagues”. However, sorting out players according to their skill level will be a tough job. A better mechanism for the separate leagues would be to divide up the teams based on their past performances. By default, this would mean the newcomers will start from level/division 2.
A constant participation of teams is required to ensure that there will be enough teams competing in these separate divisions.

Liga NCBL amat bagus kpd perkembangan bola keranjang m’sia.

So, dimanakah relevan untuk memberi CAP………sorry just a personal view of point

Tetapi ditolak atas alasan…aku tak ingat, tapi aku quite berpuas hati la dengan alasan mr wong. haha. but that doesnt mean yang aku tak setuju pasal division format or anything. aku cume berpendapat there will be too much money, work, energy, and time consumed to make it happen, thus susah gile nak buat division ni.
satu lagi reason sebab aku rase NCBL punye organizer tak cukup strict, there is report saying one or two team only pay the registration fee after the tournament ended….and if some of you old enough, you’ll know that mb cup and other tournaments associated with nc, were full with scams and frauds (all those fake ic and pinoys haha) but to say that generally to all organizers is unfair.
my main point is that if the you want to make a division system or player caps, the organizaer has to be strict.
take sultan cup div2 for example. they are super strict which is GOOD since all the rules are basically to make sure high sportsmanship and quality of tournaments.
however, dominique has some good idea and points about the salary cap which u guys can read at http://pemainbolakeranjang.blogspot.com/2009/03/ncbl-2009-gossips-refarding-player-cap.html

Hi,pegasusbigboss. SEPATUTNYA KITA MENGGUNAKAN PERKATAAN ” NON AMERICAN PLAYERS” ha ha ha ha. Kalau kita membuat pemilihan pemain yang terbaik dpd kalangan pemain-pemain NCBL dan tubuhkan satu tim, saya percaya kita pun boleh menumpaskan pemain/tim cina di Malaysia ni. NCBL BOLEH………….
